In the Autumn of 2016, a fledgling partnership initiative between Bradford Council and Collingwood Learning went live. Real Safeguarding Stories grew out of our long term working relationship with Bradford Council where we had delivered many safeguarding training programmes for elected members, officers, and partners. Our shared belief was that survivors’ stories must be central to all training and awareness around safeguarding from human trafficking to CSE and domestic abuse.
Working with testimonies from survivors, anonymised case studies, and with experts from social care, the police, charities and health care, we developed a bank of actor delivered video monologues. From this we created realsafeguardingstories.com where professionals across the UK can access these monologues for free and play them online as part of training and awareness activities.
Now a ‘go to’ resource for safeguarding professionals and with thousands of visits per month, the website has become an award-winning, nationally recognised resource, giving survivors a voice as we tackle abuse in all its forms.
