Values Based Recruitment is an approach to help attract and select students, trainees and employees, whose personal values and behaviours align with the NHS values outlined in the constitution. Health care providers are increasingly using this approach to improve their recruitment and retention targets.
Health Education England requested a resource that would enable potential band 1 – 4 employees to actively engage with NHS values, and assess their own suitability for the range of roles available. This tool would act as a motivating factor for quality applicants to choose a career in the NHS.
Collingwood, working with multi-agency partners, created an online self-assessment tool which included a series of video scenarios. Characters working in a variety of roles were presented with values-based dilemmas and challenges. Users of the resource can choose from a series of potential responses and see what outcomes their decision created. Working through the resource participants could then assess their alignment with NHS values.
